MURAL Festival | Best Street Art Walking Tour in Montreal

We are halfway through the summer and I am having MURAL festival withdrawal symptoms. In the last six years since the inception of this organization, I have feasted my eyes on the new murals found throughout the Plateau Montreal. This year, I decided I needed to know more, so I joined a guided walking tour. Certainly this activity is available during the festival, but did you know that you can go on these amazing tours all throughout the summer?! YES!

Our small group of locals and folks from out of town met our guide Pedro Amos on a Sunday morning near the main zone (Saint-Laurent, below Prince Arthur). Pedro is a mural artist himself and the co-founder of Miami Best Graffiti Guide. If you find yourself in the Miami area of Wynwood and want to learn about the beautiful street art check out their website here. They have been featured in publications that need no introduction like Rolling Stone and The New York Times.

Pedro is part of a unique international graffiti artist community and we were lucky to have him! Not only did he tell us about the history and technical aspects of this type of art but he also shared some interesting insider facts about every piece we visited – just over twenty art pieces in fact!

We ended the tour at the Waxhead mural (Marie-Anne street at the corner of Saint-Laurent) and we got to meet the artist himself and have a chat! Pedro and Waxhead were also discussing how they would work together on one part of the piece. It was very inspiring to see that the graffiti artist community is such a collaborative space. Artists working together only elevate the art we, the public, get to experience.

For those who are interested in exploring Montreal through the eyes of the artists whose work adorns its city walls, this is the activity for you. The tours are happening all summer long, for more information and bookings, click here!
