Legacy Series | Centaur Theatre’s 50th Anniversary

Centaur Theatre is celebrating its 50th anniversary in style.  With three staged play readings dubbed the Legacy Series.  The choices are evidence of Montreal ’s rich creativity and the theatre community that Centaur commits to present.

“Throughout this very special year, we pay tribute to the audiences who remind us what a privilege it is to live in a city as vibrant and diverse as Montreal and who inspire us to tell stories that celebrate extraordinary human experiences.”

– Artistic and Executive Director, Eda Holmes.

BALCONVILLE from September 28 to 30, 2018.

SCHWARTZ’S: THE MUSICAL from December 14 to 16, 2018

What Rough Beast by Alice Abracen – MAY 2019

We were lucky to attend Schwartz’s: The Musical where the performance blew us away.  Such talented actors, singers, and musicians! It was a true pleasure to enjoy the reenacting of the story behind one of Montreal’s favored delis.

The comedic approach and continuous reminders of the restaurant’s strong culture was a pleasure to discover. Personally, I enjoyed the musical performances which never were well-balanced within the story.   By the time the show ended, we were hungry for a real smoked meat sandwich and to our delight, they offered one! Delicious!

Centaur’s 50th year is a notable one and is celebrating with honor.  Montreal has so much to offer and this is a great way to put forward some of our talent and stories.  We are very much looking forward to the next and last Legacy Series in May 2019.  The play What Rough Beast by emerging playwright Alice Abracen examines the political polarization of a university campus – a topic that sits at the heart of the Montreal experience.

Until then, you can visit the lineup of Centaur’s plays in the coming months by visiting their website here It was not our first time at the Centaur, in fact, we attended their last play of the season last year.  Visit our review here.
