Welcome to the second edition of Art & the City where you will discover 5 art and culture things to do in Montreal in March 2021! With Spring around the corner and certain restrictions still in place, I have mixed feelings. That being said, our city is coming through for us once more this month with new and interesting artistic experiences both in person and online. Let’s get into it!
#OOTD: Coat On, Boots On!
To get us hyped, I will start with the in-person events. Of course, distancing and safety measures will apply.
OASIS Walk-Through Immersive Experience
OASIS immersion is brand new at the Palais de Congrès. Firstly, this walk-through experience includes multiple immersive galleries and light installations in a huge space! Moreover, their first exhibit “Inspirations” focuses on inspiration and innovation through the eyes of Quebec’s creative talent. More specifically, you will dive deep into colorful laser-projected imagery and enveloping soundscapes while exploring the following themes.
- Astronaut (and doctor!) David Saint-Jacques & his experience living in space
- Pianist and composer Alexandra Stréliski & her musical journey
- YouTuber Émile Roy & resilience and action
- An homage to Quebec’s creativity
- Comfort and well-being, “hygge” style
- The new architectural wonders of the world

Candlelight Classic Concert
Next, I have the pleasure to inform you that in a couple of weeks you will be able to take your date to a Candlelight Concert of glorious classical music in a beautiful setting. Super romantic, right?! Certainly, you can soon enjoy some Vivaldi (03/18) and Chopin (03/25) at the Jean-Baptiste Church in the Plateau. Additionally, the series continues throughout the Spring with Beethoven and Mozart as well as a “music in film” concert. The latter will mostly take place at the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel in Old Montreal.

#OOTD: Fluffy Robe & Bunny Slippers!
Bobby Bazini
Years ago, I discovered local musician Bobby Bazini at the Jazz Fest. As a matter of fact, I heard his soulful voice from down the street and rushed over to his stage. Afterwards, I bought his album “Where I Belong” and played “Bubblegum” on repeat all summer.
Of course, Bobby has put out more music since then. In fact, this month he will be giving us a live concert from the iconic John Lennon & Yoko Ono suite at the Queen Elizabeth hotel!

Bijuriya’s Drag Cabaret
With the Village cabarets closed and queer parties on hold, drag artists have taken to our screens! For instance, Gabriel Dharmoo a.k.a. Bijuriya, the MAI (Montreal arts interculturels) drag queen in residence, has produced a number of great performances for Drag Cabaret. As a result, this free online cabaret will feature Bijuriya’s favourite numbers in varying styles: “calypso, Bollywood (vintage, glamorous and/or psychedelic), baroque opera and… the odd vocalizations of imaginary creatures!”

Montreal en lumière – Gastronomy Edition
This year, Montreal en lumière looks totally different: the focus is on local gastronomy! On one hand, partner restaurants will be offering special discovery menus to-go (including Helena, my fave!). On the other hand, you can gift yourself a sweet staycation at a chic hotel and take advantage of the “Quilt & Fine Cuisine” packages. To clarify, you can remain in your robe and get lovely meals and cocktails from the hotel’s award-winning restaurants at decent prices delivered directly to your suite. In addition, this programming is accompanied by 4 free original web series about emergent Quebec gastronomy.
